Invented by L. Ron Hubbard, Scientology is one of the most followed religious beliefs by people across the globe. The main purpose of Scientology is not to impose the idea of God on the followers, instead, it is up to them to find out their spiritual path. For some people, Scientology is not just a faith, it is a way of life. Some call it ‘beautiful’, while others accuse the Church of overlooking the crimes committed in the name of religion such as child abuse, harassment, lying to others for personal gain, and so on.

There are hundreds of thousands of followers of Scientology ranging from businessmen to writers to musicians and actors. Below we discuss 10 such famous personalities who are arch followers of Scientology.

Isaac Hayes

Born in a Christian family in Covington, Tennessee, singer Isaac Hayes started studying Scientology in 1993. He has endorsed many Scientology books over the years. He was the voice of Chef on the Comedy Central animated series South Park. Hayes wanted the creators, Matt Stone and Trey Parker to take a couple of Scientology courses to understand what they do because he was upset with the way they portrayed Scientology in one of the episodes. Later he asked to be released from the show and he quit in 2006.

Kirstie Alley

Actress and model Kirstie Alley started pursuing Scientology after she moved to Los Angeles in 1979. She was born in Wichita, Kansas, and started her career as an interior designer. She turned towards Scientology to end her cocaine addiction. She purchased a house in Clearwater, Florida where the spiritual headquarters of the Church of Scientology is, and donated $5 million to the Church.

Tom Cruise

An arch follower and promoter of Scientology, Tom Cruise openly takes a stand for the Church of Scientology and the programs associated with the belief. According to him, Scientology helped him overcome dyslexia. Tom Cruise was raised a Catholic and did not have a healthy relationship with his father, whom he called a ‘bully’. He was introduced to Scientology when he was married to Mimi Rogers, who is also a follower of the faith. He has also campaigned in Europe for the religious recognition of Scientology.

Sonny Bono

Salvatore Phillip Bono, popularly known as Sonny Bono was an American actor and politician. Born and raised a Roman Catholic, he started taking an interest in Scientology because of Mimi Rogers. He belonged to the Republican party and served the state of California until his death due to a skiing accident. After his death, his wife reportedly said that he wanted to get away from the Church of Scientology but they made it very difficult to do this – a claim that the Church denied.

Priscilla Presley

Priscilla Ann Wagner, born in Brooklyn, New York is an American businesswoman and actress who was married to Elvis Presley. She was a firm believer of Scientology and denied any rumors of her leaving the Church. However, it was later reported that she did distance herself from the Church but still follows the teachings of Scientology.

Sharon Stone

Born in Meadville, Pennsylvania, actress Sharon Stone descends from Irish ancestry. An academically gifted child who entered second grade at the age of five, Stone has won certain beauty pageants and started her modeling career after she moved to New Jersey. Although she did complete her degree in 2016 from Edinboro University at the age of 58. She was a Scientology believer for a brief period but left it soon after to follow other religions.

Mimi Rogers

One of the very few celebrities who had Scientology as part of her upbringing, since her father was involved with the Church of Scientology, Mimi Rogers believes Scientology has played a major role in her life. She introduced her ex-husband, Tom Cruise, and Sonny Bono to Scientology. Although recent sources report that she has left the Church and is often referred to as the ‘former member’.

Courtney Love

Descending from a long line of English, Cuban, Irish, Welsh, and German ancestry, Courtney Love, born (July 9, 1964) in San Francisco, California is an American singer and actress. Love and her then-husband Kurt Cobain allegedly became addicted to heroin, which troubled their lives especially when Love was pregnant. This led her to find ways to end her addiction and she joined the Church of Scientology. In her album America’s Sweetheart, she can be heard thanking the Church and Kirstie Alley.

Patrick Swayze

Known for his unforgettable performances in movies like Dirty Dancing, Ghost, and Christmas in Wonderland, Patrick Swayze was a prominent figure in the American film industry. He was struggling with alcoholism and was in rehab for a brief period. He joined Scientology after the passing away of his father. He has stated that he wanted to try out various religions and how they fit in his life. However, he left Scientology shortly afterward and rather chose to pursue Buddhism and Transcendental Meditation.

John Travolta

Raised a Roman Catholic, John Travolta chose to convert to Scientology, which according to him has also helped him through the death of his kid, Jett in 2009. He was introduced to the faith by an Australian woman named Yvonne Gilham in 1975. He claims that Scientology has given him the ‘tools’ to deal with any problems in life.
